India tells Canada to withdraw 41 diplomats amid Nijjar row

New Delhi has instructed Ottawa to repatriate roughly 41 diplomats by next Tuesday, October 10th. Canadian intelligence suggests that Indian government agents had a role in the June killing of a Canadian citizen and six separatist leaders, Hardeep Singh Najar, on Canadian soil.
Najar had been labeled as a terrorist by India. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came out publicly a couple of weeks ago with what he called credible allegations that India’s government was involved in the killing. The government expelled a top Indian diplomat from Canada almost immediately after, and India expelled a Canadian diplomat in return. India has denied Trudeau’s allegations. According to the Financial Times, recently reported Canada has 62 diplomats currently in India, and that country has said the total should be reduced by 41.
India gives ultimatum to Canada, demands reduction in staff
The Indians demanded that Canada reduce its diplomatic strength in the country amid the escalating diplomatic graph between the two nations, which erupted, remember after Canadian President Justin Trudeau linked the government of India to the murder of the Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Niger on Canadian territory. Now, according to reports, India has given a deadline to Canada, asking it to withdraw at least about 40 diplomats from the country by the 10th of October. Failing to do so would result in the revocation of diplomatic immunity of diplomats who remain in the country after that.
This is not the first time that such a demand has, in fact, been made. Earlier, when the controversy broke up, India’s foreign ministry said that it wanted parity in the number of diplomatic staff stationed in each other’s country while announcing a visa ban for all Canadians to come and visit India.
